"At her rootsy best, Susanna Berivan combines un-flashy delta style guitar with a more urban style of singing reminiscent of Ma Rainey or Mamie Smith. She also does a good line in 60s sounding pop-rock, and has moments of folkiness, her voice tying it all together with a fragility that invites the audience into an intimate and melancholy sound world."

LIVE REVIEW

"Lamenting, bewitching, bedazzling."

NORMAN PALM (WHITEST BOY ALIVE)

"Susa Berivan took the mic and kept the audience in the palm of her hands for her whole show."
SUNDAY EXTRAORDINAIRE

"Susa's most distinctive voice provides a   beautiful and sharp-edged paradox of   melancholic uplift."
EXBERLINER MAGAZINE

Berlin Singer Songwriter Susa Berivan has played her way from busking in the streets onto international stages. Her melancholy songs reveal a depth that is never just sad, but always carried out with a lifeaffirming musical joy, especially in Berivans live concerts. Inspired by a variety of greats - including Billie Holiday, Tanita Tikaram, Tracy Chapman, Björk, John Lee Hooker and Ofra Haza – Susa Berivan has found a unique style of combining these deep-rooted influences with her very own eclectic experiments.

Her music is genre-fluid, while remaining forever truly emotional.

Susa Berivan has been opening for Georgian jazz sensation Nino Katamadze, French alternative band 'Moriarty', has been a background singer for numerous acts, played electric guitar for Jemek Jemowit/ Zygmunt Blask and sang Hot Jazz with members of the Syncopation Orchestra.

Meanwhile her solo shows in smaller clubs – all on her own with just a guitar – are just hypnotic. Sometimes Berivan simply plays one drum or two shakers, while her voice meanders in the long reverb, taking the audience on a rich musical journey.

Recently, Berivan has found a companion with whom she expands the live sound further, giving an even more facetted experience.

Gigi Guillottini on bass, drum and harmonica joins her in playing new songs that also dive into new territories of language: after having sung in English until now, some of the new releases reveal to have their poetic lyrics written in German.

Susa & Gigi have just been to the studio and will be releasing new songs in the nearest future of 2024.
